| For several years, the National Indian Health Board has hosted the Climate Ready Tribes (CRT) initiative, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As part of this project, NIHB has provided funding and support to Tribes to conduct local climate and health work, offered an Environmental Health and Climate Change track at NIHB’s annual Tribal Public Health Summit, hosted national webinars, shared information and resources related to Tribal climate health, and highlighted Tribal champions and Tribal climate issues – among other activities.
Now, while the Climate Ready Tribes initiative continues into its third year, NIHB is also pleased to announce a new project: the Environmental Health Listening Session project, also funded by the CDC. As part of this project, NIHB is working in partnership with the CDC to collect and share Tribal leaders’ insights about environmental health concerns, as well as the innovative approaches Tribal Nations are using to address these concerns. This is a short-term project with one primary focus: listening sessions.
From January 2019 through June 2019, NIHB will:
· Convene two national and two regional listening sessions with Directors of Tribal Health Organizations and Tribal Leadership
· Share the perspectives of participants with CDC and NIHB leadership to inform the development of national environmental health programs and policies
The first listening session will be held in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Learn more here. These sessions are intended primarily for Tribal leaders but are open to the public and anyone interested may attend.

What about the public health broadcast?
Members of the Climate and Health Learning Community also receive the Public Health Broadcast, a weekly mailing sent out each Thursday. The Broadcast includes public health news, funding, opportunities, events, and resources relevant to Tribal public health – whether from NIHB or external partners. The Broadcast is also sent to the Climate and Health Learning Community. Although not all resources are relevant to climate or environmental concerns, this is the only way that NIHB shares most climate news, partner resources, and other external climate information. NIHB mailings to the Climate and Health Learning Community are less frequent and focus on NIHB events and articles.
