Tribal Consultation Call to Discuss SNAP Proposed Rule

Please join The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in response to the National Indian Health Board’s (NIHB’s) comment to the USDA proposed rule on Enhancing Retailer Standards in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In NIHB’s comment, several recommendations were made, including:
- Providing technical assistance, capacity building and agricultural development grants to Tribal communities;
- Fund Cooperative Extension Educational programs in Tribal communities;
- Impose flexible timelines for compliance and adjust requirements based on local needs;
- Increase SNAP nutrition education funding to $3 million and streamline Tribal access.
NIHB’s comment also requested Tribal consultation before the proposed rule is finalized. In response, USDA is holding a special consultation call onWednesday, September 28, 2016 at 10:00AM ET.
