A U.S. Senate Committee has passed a bill which would grant federal recognition to the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians in Montana. Little Shell is one of many tribes that are part of the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council and we are excited about this development.
A statement from the Little Shell Tribe:
“Our Senate bill S.39 passed through the Indian Affairs committee yesterday. It has done this 4 times in the past also, it means we now need a House bill to accompany it and then both can go forward for a full vote in both chambers. Still more work needs to be done… we will continue fighting for this.”
