(U.S. Senate)— U.S. Senator Jon Tester met with board members of the National Indian Health Board (NIHB), including Sam Moose, Gerald Hill, Lisa Elgin, Donnie Garcia, Stacy A Bohlen, Delvin Delrow, and Kaci Wallette, a Councilwoman from the Fort Peck Tribe.
The group discussed important health care issues facing Native Americans including the opioid crisis and funding for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians, which expires on March 31 without a long-term budget deal. As a member of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and the Senate Appropriations Committee, Tester heard their concerns and expressed his commitment toward continuing to work with the NIHB to strengthen the health of tribal communities across Montana.
