IHS Releases New Methamphetamine and Suicide Prevention Initiative Funding Opportunity Announcements
New Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 Methamphetamine and Suicide Prevention Initiative (MSPI) funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) were posted to the Federal Register today. MSPI federal program award opportunities were also posted to the MSPI webpage for IHS Federal Facilities.

The new FOA is specific to MSPI Purpose Area 4: Generation Indigenous (GEN-I) Support. Projects under this purpose area concentrate efforts on Native youth and families by focusing on promoting early intervention strategies and implementation of positive youth development programming to reduce risk factors for suicidal behavior and substance abuse. This funding opportunity is available to Tribes, Tribal organizations, urban Indian organizations (UIOs), and IHS Federal facilities.
For Tribes, Tribal organizations, and UIOs, please confirm your eligibility category below to ensure you are applying for MSPI funding using the correct FOA:
1. New Applicants
(Funding Announcement Number: HHS-2016-IHS-MSPI-0001): This funding opportunity announcement is available specifically for NEW APPLICANTS – those Tribes, Tribal organizations, or UIOs that DO NOT currently receive MSPI Purpose Area #4 grant funds.
2. Current MSPI Purpose Area #4 Grantees
(Funding Announcement Number: HHS-2016-IHS-MSPI-0002): This funding opportunity announcement is available specifically for CURRENT GRANTEES – those Tribes, Tribal organizations, or UIOs that currently receive MSPI Purpose Area #4 funding (i.e., those project who were funded for Purpose Area #4 in Fiscal Year 2015).
The deadline for applications to be submitted is August 1, 2016.
