Working with Substance-Abusing Families Training
September 15, 2021 @ 12:00 am - September 17, 2021 @ 12:00 am
The training will be held online
Join us for one of our upcoming trainings in Working with Substance-Abusing Families.
We will offer one of our popular trainings, Working with Substance-Abusing Families. Parental substance use disorders are a factor in many child welfare cases. This training will provide an overview of working with substance-abusing Native families from both a direct service and a systems collaboration point of view. The trainer will discuss how to deal with this issue and how systems collaboration can make successful outcomes possible. A collaborative model that engages child welfare, the courts, and behavioral health providers will be discussed. Participants will learn five essential roles for working with substance-abusing families and how their work can be accomplished through partnering on the parent’s recovery. This training is three days with three sessions per day to cover the nine core lessons.
Working with Substance-Abusing Families Technical Assistance
For the first time NICWA is offering follow up technical assistance for interested programs participating in our three-day Working with Substance-Abusing Families (WWSAF) Training Institute. Parental substance use disorders are a factor in many child welfare cases, and while this curriculum provides a framework for engaging families with substance use disorders, we know how hard it is to implement new practices without support. NICWA has over 30 years of experience providing consultation on culturally based practice innovations. NICWA Founder and Senior Advisor Terry Cross will provide six 90-minute follow-up group consultation sessions (July- December 2021) plus up to 8 hours of virtual coaching for your individual program on incorporating the approaches taught in the curriculum. Terry is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 47 years of experience in child welfare and the lead author of the NICWA WWSAF curriculum.
The fee for the follow-up technical assistance is $5,000 per program regardless of the number of participants from the program.
To support training registration and participation in the follow-up technical assistance program, tribes may wish to consider using the following funding sources: Title IV-B, Subpart 1; Title IV-B, Subpart 2; ICWA funds; and/or BIA Social Services funds.
